Athletics

Building Champions On and Off the Court

Athletics at Thomas Edison Charter School provide students with opportunities to compete, grow, and develop valuable life skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. Our athletic programs emphasize teamwork, perseverance, discipline, respect, leadership, and sportsmanship while encouraging students to challenge themselves both academically and athletically.

TECS proudly offers competitive athletic opportunities for eligible middle school students, including:

  • Boys Basketball
  • Girls Basketball
  • Cheerleading

Athletic offerings may expand based on student interest, staffing, and league participation.

More Than Athletics

Participation in school athletics helps students develop skills that extend well beyond the game. Student-athletes learn to:

  • Work collaboratively as teammates
  • Demonstrate leadership and responsibility
  • Communicate effectively
  • Build resilience through challenges
  • Manage time and balance academics with extracurricular activities
  • Display integrity and respect for teammates, opponents, officials, and spectators

Our coaches strive to create a positive environment where students learn the value of commitment, perseverance, and personal growth while representing TECS with pride.

Student-Athlete Expectations & Athletic Eligibility

Participation in athletics is a privilege that comes with responsibility. Student-athletes are expected to:

  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress
  • Demonstrate positive behavior both in and out of the classroom
  • Attend practices and competitions consistently
  • Exhibit good sportsmanship
  • Represent Thomas Edison Charter School with pride and integrity

Our coaches work closely with students and families to support both athletic and academic success. Students must meet all eligibility requirements established by TECSl before participating in athletics.

Before participating in tryouts, practices, or competitions, students must:

  • Complete all required athletic paperwork
  • Submit a current sports physical
  • Meet academic and behavioral expectations
  • Follow all school and team policies

Sportsmanship & Growing Leaders Through Athletics

At TECS, success is measured by more than wins and losses. We believe good sportsmanship, respect, integrity, and teamwork are the foundation of every successful athletic program. Student-athletes, coaches, families, and spectators are expected to model positive behavior and encourage one another while representing our school community with pride.

Athletics help students discover their strengths, overcome challenges, build confidence, and develop lifelong friendships. Whether competing on the court or cheering on their classmates, our students learn that leadership, character, and teamwork are just as important as the final score.

All students participating in extra-curricular athletics at Thomas Edison must obtain a sports physical from a doctor. Sports physicals for the new school year may be performed on or after April 1st of the current year playing the sport and is valid until June 30th of the following year.
